Cricket 1895
M a r c h 28, 1895. CRICKET : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 45 faced each other at 11.30 a.m. to begin the first day of their play. Neither Mr. Bush nor Mr. Barratt, who had been injured in Saturday’s races, were able to play, though both gentlemen were on the field. Captain Warner won the toss for the home team, and sent them in. The attendance of visitors was very good, the members’ stand containing many ladies. His excellency the Governor arrived before the play began. The captain of H.M.S. Buzzard and other officers were present. During the after noon many of the officers from the U.S. cruisers were in attendance. It was a few minutes after three o’clock when All Trinidad took the field. The first over was bowled from the south end by Taitt to Lucas, who scored 2 off the second ball; but next over Taitt cleaned bowled the English captain. None of the others made a decided stand, but Marshal carried his bat out for 19 (highest individual score), and the innings closed for 94 only. All Trinidad made a fine stand, and Leotaud swiped one of Marshall’s over the fence for 6 . The innings closed for 180 runs. Mr. A. Warner, the captain, who was top scorer with 77, was loudly cheered on returning to the pavillion. He made twelve bound ary hits, four 3’s, and four 2’s. On the second day only two of the Englishmen made any stand, viz., Mr. R. P. Sewell ( 66 ) and Mr. J. D. Weatherby (56), the remaining nine batsmen only scoring 28. The full score was 162, leaving All Trinidad 77 runs to get to win. This they accomplished with the loss of two wickets only. Full score and analysis:— A ll T r in id a d .
