Mr. F. Mitchell’s team have commenced their tour in America well. In the first match v. New York, on September 3rd and 4th, the home team were dismissed cheaply by Hartley and Milligan for 112 , which did not quite reach the individual score of N. F. Druce, whose 121 was well supported by J, A. Phillips’ 88 . The New Yorkists were 211 behind on the first innings, but at the second time of asking hit off the deficit and made 57 runs to the good. The requisite 58 cost three wickets, including that of Druce. The match was played twelve aside. So was the second game at Toronto on the 6 th and 7th instant. The opposition were all Canada, but Hartley bowled too well for them, and they made but 137 and 86 against England’s 188. Druce and Phillips again doing well and being helped by Robinson. Time did not allow an English victory, but the team needed but 21 with ten wickets to fall when the game ended in a draw. Score :— N e w Y o r k . First Innings.
