A t the same time it may interest Cricket readers to know what the nucleus of the combination would be. A t e le g r a m from Melbourne under date of July 5 to the South Australian Register makes announcement that ' ‘ active measures were then being taken in the matter of the selection of the next Australian Eleven, which it was proposed should leave Australia for England under the management of Mr. Phil Sheridan. According to this telegram the following had been asked to join the team :— George Giffen, J. J. Lyons, C. H ill, and J. Darling (South Australia); F . J. Iredale, C. T. B. Turner and S. Gregory (New South Wales); H . Trott, Johns, A . E . Trott, and H . Graham (Victoria); and Eady * “ " The idea is that Johns shall be wicket-keeper, with Hill as assistant. The only one of the team contemplated who it is said has not yet been asked is T. B . McKibbin (N .S .W .), whose choice will depend upon the form he exhibits during the forthcoming season. T h e worst of the matter is that the very next number of the South Australian Register gave the whole thing away. The telegram seems to have caused a good deal of surprise to South Australian cricketers, and it is said that no commu nication has been received by Giffen, Lyons, Hill, and Darling, the four South Australians named from M r. Sheridan. George Giffen, indeed, considers it absurd to talk of selecting a team at the present time, and, indeed, a selection with the Australian season approaching would seem to be a bit premature, to say the least of it. Nor does Mr, Phil Sheridan,
