Cricket 1895

202 CRICKET : A WJEEKL? RECORD OF THE GAME. J u ^ e 13, 1895. To the Cricket reader who has no knowledge of cricket outside our own right little, tight little island, it would sound strange to hear of play before breakfast, as, I recently read in an account of a match in Ceylon. A regi mental team was playing the Matale Cricket Club at Matale, and according to the report from which I quote the Matale men batted for half- an-hour before break fast, with the disastrous result of losing five wickets for fourteen runs. I trust they had the appetite their virtue deserved. THE POSITIONS OF COUNTIES. The following table shows the positions of the fourteen first-class counties in the championship contest so far as it has gone— i.e., to June 12:— Played. W on. Lost. Drwn. Pnts. BUCKHURST H IL L v WOODFORD W ELLS.— CRICKET AT CAMBRIDGE. THE UNIVERSITY v. DUBLIN UNIVERSITY. Thanks to a fine performance by one man on each side this match, played on the first three days of this week was not without interest. For the Cantabs N. F. Druce showed continued fine form in his 116, but Lucius Gwynn’s performance for Dublin was an almost more excellent one. He scored 169 out of 365 made in the two innings by bis side and captured four of the Cambridge wickets. Despite his efforts, how ever, Cambridge won easily by an innings and 2 runs.
