The abstract and brief chronicle of the time.— Hamlet. T h e Committee of the Marylebone Club have done what everybody felt sure they would do, accepted the responsibiliiy of working the testimonial to commemor ate in a fitting manner the great woik W . G. Grace has done in popularising cricket. Always to the fore when enter- piiseis wanted, the Daily Telegraph toohas instituted a shilling subscription with a view of securing the active Jsupport of the thousands who would gladly assist in such a good work if they had a chance proportionate to their means. T h e Sub-Committee of the Marylebone Club are making every arrangement for making the testimonial what it ought to be— imperial, and thanks to the hearty co-operation of the press and the various news agencies which girdle the earth, the news of the institution of the testimonial has long before this been cabled to all parts of the world, and will, in due time, bring a world - wide response. The one touch of nature was particularly noticeable in the letter of his Eminence Cardinal Vaughan iu yesterday’s Daily Telegraph. The Cardinal, in sending his contribution, expresses the contributor’s ‘ heartiest good wishes for all that he (W .G .) has done to popularise a popular and truly national game, in whi^h thousands of our people actively par ticipate to their own personal, physical, and moral advantage, and thousands of others find benefit and wholesome plea sure in witnessing.”
