CRICKET IN SOUTH AFRICA. T he C u r r ie T o u rn am en t . The fourth Inter-Provincial Tourna ment for the possession of the handsome Cup presented by Sir Donald Currie, was commenced at Cape Town on March 17. Four provinces, to wit the Transvaal, Griqualand West, the Eastern Province, and Natal, competed, in addition to the holders, the Western Province. In the initial stage, Transvaal beat the Eastern Province and Natal Griqualand West. In the second round,in the match between the winners Natal defeated the Transvaal after a very exciting finish, by nine runs, while Griqualand West had an easy victory over Eastern Province by nine wickets. Natal, having won both matches, had therefore to meet the holders. In this case they were altogether outplayed, for the Western Province assertedtheir superiority allround and won in an innings with sixty runs to spare* The scores of the matches were as under.
