THE TWELFTH ENGLISH TEAM IN AUSTRALIA. With the exception of Mr. H. Philipson, who joined the boat at Naples, all the members of Mr. Stoddart’s team for Australia sailed from Tilbury on Sept. 21 in the Orient steamship “ Ophir.” The cricketers went do wn to Til­ bury by the special train from Fenchurch Street Station, which was simply thronged with people to see them off. Among those who went on board the “ Ophir ” at Tilbury were Lord Darnley, the Hon. Ivo Bligh, Mr. G. MacGregor, Mr. A. F. J. Ford, J. T. Hearne, H. Wood, Maurice Read, Mr. O. Absolon, G. W. Ayres, and G. Baker. Before the tender left, the cricketers and their friends assembled in the smoking-room, and the health of the eleven was proposed in very graceful terms by Mr. C. E. Green. In reply Mr. Stoddart thanked the company for their good wishes,and expressed great confidence in the ability of the players under his command. Hearty cheers were given as the tender went back to shore. The names of the thirteen players are— J. Briggs (Lancashire) A. Ward (Lancashire) R. Teel (Yorkshire) w. Brockwell (Surrey) W. At a meeting of the Yorkshire County Com­ mittee held at the Corn Exchange, Sheffield, on the 10th inst., fixtures for 1895 were settled, subject to suitable dates being arranged. The various matches were placed as follow : At Sheffield, v. Lancashire, Notts, Leicester­ shire, Hampshire, and Notts Colts ; at Brad­ ford, v. Surrey, Gloucestershire, andWarwick- shire ; Huddersfield, v. Sussex ; Dewsbury, v. K ent; Harrogate, v. Essex ; Leeds, v. Somer­ set, Derbyshire, and Middlesex Id will be noticed that Hampshire are to be met. It was further decided to play second eleven matches versus a team selected from the various districts at Keighley, Batley, Barnsley, and Middlesbrough. T he Annual Meeting of County Secretaries for the arrangement of the various pro­ grammes for next season will take place at Lord’s on Tuosday, December 11.
