The Hampshire eleven did another excellent per form ance at Southam pton at the end o f last week, though unable to bring the m atch to a definite conclusion. Leicesteishire, who had won the toss, had what little batting there was on Thurs day, scoring <6 for the loss of one wicket. On the follow ing morning, Mr. De Trafford, w ho was not out 48 over night, hit vigorously with one life till he was at last I owled with the total at 111, of which bis share was 81. After his ietirem ent Baldwin and M r.Bili bowled with great success, so much f o indeed that the ini ings, which had lasted two hours and fifty minutes, closed for 166. Hampshire in their turn began 1adly, losing Mr. Robson when only three runs had 1een scored. Mr. t i l played carefu ly while Capt. Wynyard hit and when the form er was bowled at 91. he had only made 25. Barton and Capt. W ynyard scored freely till at last at 160 the latter was caught. Be had made *16 out of 167 in an hour and three- quarters, and a brilliant disp’ay of cricket was only marred by one chance not long before he wa s out. W ith Mr. W ard and Barton in Leicester shire, with Pousher still unable to I owl, fared very badly. After making 68 M r.W ardwas caught, and at the end of the day when the sccre thowc d 306 for four wickets Barton w as still in with 81, an admirable innings, to his credit Rain fell heavily during Friday night, and though the weather held up on Saturday tbe wicket was so soaked that it was found im possible to continue the m atch.
