A fter three days o f even and interesting cricket the return m a tch betw een these C ounties ended yesterday at T aunton in a draw. N otts, w ho had w on th e first gam e at T rent Fridge b y tw enty runs, determ ined to play H ardstaff and H andford w ith a view to strengthen their bow ling. On the oth er side M r. C hallen w as an absentee, m aking w ay fo r M r. V . T . H ill, w ho had recovered from the effects o f his recent strain. N otw ith­ standing th e rain fall o f the previous day, the w icket pla yed fairly w ell on M onday, and N otts, w ho w on th e toss, w ere at the w ickets three hours and a quarter for a total o f £00. Of 183 m ade from the bat, G unn, F low ers, A ttew ell. and H andford con trib u ted n o less than 175, so that seven o f the eleven betw een them only a ccou n ted fo r eight. G unn’s 101 w as quite the feature of the innings. In first w icket dow n at 2, h e w as nin th ou t at 200. D uring the three hours he w as in he show ed sound defence, w ith occasion a lly free as w ell as attractive cricket, and there w as ODly on e possib’ e fa u lt—a hard return to T yler w hen h e had got seventy- seven. M essrs R , P alairet and H ill pn t on 78 for S om ersetshire b y excellent cricket, and ju st as tim e w as up, M r. L . P alairet w as caught at the w icket, m aking tw o w ickets dow n fo r 79. On T uesday m orning the S om ersetshire batsm en w ere seen to advantage fo r a tim e, and at luncheon tim e the to ta l w as 192 fo r the loss o f six w ickets. On th e resum ption. B a n dford’s bow ling effected a great change, and in 43 balls he got rid o f the last fou r batsm en at a cost o f only 14 runs. T h ou gh on the first innings N otts were seven runs to th e t ad, w hen they w ent in again they w ere seen to better advantage, and in the last three h ours on T uesday th ey pu t on 196 runs fo r the loss o f only fou r batsm en. G unn, and F low ers, w ho pu t on 91 runs in eighty m inu tes, w ere again the ch ief figures in this batting perform an ce o f N otts. G unn seem ed to b e alm ost certain o f a second hundred— a very rare achievem ent in im portant m atches—w hen he returned a b a ll gently to Mr, H ill. H is crick et w as again o f the highest quality H is innings extended over tw o hours and a half, and there w as n o sem blance o f a chance. M essrs. W right (32) and^Dixon (4 , the overnight n ot outs, scored freely yesterday m orning till rain stopped play. A fter another sh ort interval from the sam e cause, M r. W right was caught, and on e run later M r. D ixon w as bow led. B oth batsm en had played excellent cricket, though n eith er display w as faultless. M r. D ixon then, w ith the tota l 274 fo r six w ickets, closed his innings,leaving Som ersetshir e w ith 278 to w in. As over three hours and a h a lf rem ained fo r play, there w as plen ty o f tim e to get th e h om e team out, w ith only a very outside ch an ce o f their w inning. A t lu nch tim e, after another stoppage from rain, seven h a d been scored w ithout a w icket, and on resum ing Som ersetshire did fairly w ell so that the hundred w ent up w ith fou r batsm en out.
