On M onday—as usual on B ack H olidays— the m atch w as w ith A ddiscom te, and a m ost interesting one it proved to te . T h e visitors had the pood fortune to w in the toss, aDd of course took first innings, the bow lers having the disadvantage o f a w et ball. So w ell did the A d d iscom b e m ake use of their opportunities, that the last w icket did n ot fa 'l till the score had reached 217, o f w hich num ber J. G rant contributed 97, a capital innings. T here rem ained on ly abou t tw o hours and a quarter for C rojd on to bat, bu t—great as th e task w as—it toon becam e evident that they had a chance, and were determ ined to try fo r a w in. R u n s cam e at a great pace, notw ithstanding frequent changes o f bcw ling, and ju st fifteen m inutes before th e tim e o f draw ing stum ps, C roydon am id m uch excitm en t w on with only five w ick ets dow n. A. E . Clarke played a splendid in nings of 96, C. W . M. Feist m ade 56, and T . A. W a tson 34. T uesday’s m a tch v. H ornsey R ise w as an easy * in for the hom e side. H ornsey R ise m ade 97, and C roydon 176 (F. B ill 44 and J. a . Archer 36). J. A. A rcher also took 6 w ickets for 20 runs. T h e m atch on W ednesday resulted in a draw. C roydon scored 186 (J. S oon after th e resum ption M r. R ashleigh, w ho b a d been in tw o hours fo r 38, ran h im self out, and then W a in w right and P eel bow led w ith such success that the innings w as com p leted fo r J23, seven w ickets fa ll ing a fter lu nch lor an addition o f on ly 43. Peel, w h o took five w ickets fo r th iity , and W ainw right to w le d w ell, and th e Y orkshire fielding w as th rou gh ou t brilliant. T he Y orkshirem en had ju st under tw o hours fo r batting on T hursday, and in th a t tim e lost five g ood w ickets fo r seventy- five. O n F riday rain restricted th e pla y to a little over tw o h ours N o play w as possible till after lu ncheon, and another heavy dow npour finally p u t an end to crick et fo r the day ju st before five o ’clock . Qhe w ick et after the rain w as fairly easy, and, in the tim e play lasted, the last five w ickets o f Y orkshire added 138. T h ou gh w ith a w et grou n d and slippery ball the K ent bow lers w ere seen at a great disadvantage, b row n and M oor h ouse w ere th e on ly batsm en to give any great trouble. In an hour the tw o professiona s added 72 runs, and at the end o f the innings B row n w as still in w ith 95 to his credit H is display w as one o f con spicu ou s m erit. A ltogether he w as batting fo r over three hours, and there w as n o actu al ch an ce to discredit a fine innings. W ith arrears o f 90 against them , K en t tegan their secon d innings on Saturday, under very great disadvan tages. U nder the in fluen ce o f a I right sun, too, the w icket w as getting very treacherous, so that their ch a n ces o f saving the gam e w ere o f the sm allest. Still, M essrs. M ason and fcashleigh began in a styje w h ich afforded som e hop e. On ih e difficult w icket b o th batsm en played really g ood cricket, and their perform an ce in pu ttin g on 68 before th ey were separated w as a fine perform ance. D irectly they w ere separated, how ever, the eud soon cam e, W ith th e pitch getting m ore and m ore difficult, W ain w righ t t«nd P eel bow led w ith irresistible effect, so m u ch so, indeed, that the last nine w icketa on ly added 47 runs. 'J his left Y orkshire w ith 26 to w in, and as L ord H aw ke and Mr- Jackson got these, K ent w ere beaten b y ten w ickets.
