Cricket 1894
830 OBIOKET t A WEEKLY RECOED OF THE GAME, AUG. 16, 1894 bowlers, may perhaps extend into Saturday, should there be any real occasion for the prolongation. The team, I am informed, are to leave England on their return home on the first of next month. GOLF AND CRICKET. Golf and Cricket, it is folly ; If a man a golfer be, Let him ohuck his cricket wholly And his ball knock off a tee. Let him hold his bat askew ; If I do not make him squeamish, Shiver with a deadly grew, Tnen he is a golfer beamish. But if crooked sticks offend you And an upright bat’s your lay, May the Heavens above defend you From their caokle and their bray ! “ O h ! golf it’s all the go From Thurso to Truro ! It’ s just the thing, you know, Just like tennis long ago 1” But let them prate away How that when you’re old and fogey You’ll have nothing for to play, Unless you listen to their bogey. “ Gather ye rosebuds ” —’tis as true To-day, as ’twas in days of Herrick, And when the ball no more will screw, ’ Tis time enough to think of Berwick, So to the field, if you can skip, And joy around you hover, If you can take a catch at slip And hold it like a lover. As long as you can out a flyer, As long as you can get a wioket, As long as you oan catch a skyer, Oh, never think of chucking orioket! P.H. M o t t o f o r S u r r e y .
