Cricket 1894

266 UIBiOlLETs A WEEKLY BECORC OF THE SAME, JULY 19, 1894 which Lord Byron took part, and which was certainly not a match between two elevens of Harrow and Eton in statu pupillari at the time. Omitting both the disputed games, those of 1605 and 1857, out of the account, last week’s feature may be fairly taken as the sixty-eighth annual match between the schools. Of these Harrow has won 29, Eton 27, and twelve have been drawn B u t to leave contentious matter and deal with things whioh concern all interested in public schools or amateur cricket generally. Harrow, will, as far as I can hear, retain Stogdon, but will lose six of the eleven which represented it at Lord’s last week. J. H. Bulloch, the captain, goes up to Tiioity College, Cambridge, A. H. W. Bentinck and F. Symes-T. ompson to Oxford, the former to Balliol, the latter to Christchuroh. J. L. Fisher, who is goiDg into the Army, C. D. Williams, and J. Bradshaw are the other three who are leavirg. T h ough he had not represented Sussex prior to Monday, Mr. R. W. Kentfield was not then new to County crioket. He was tried foi the young players of Sussex both in 1886 and '87, but apparently did little to impress the authorities at Brighton. The cricket fathers of Lancashire, though, must have had a better opinion of him about that time, for he repre sented that county four times in 1888, under the residential qualification, and with fair guooess as a batsman as well as a bowler. He was born at Bognor, so that he has a perma nent qualification for Sussex. He bowls, I may add, left-hand medium pace.
