Monday’sp la ysbow ed th e Warw ickshire eleven again to advantage, so m u ch so that after getting rid of E ssex for 133, they h a d scored 146 w ith only h a lf the side out. T heir favourable position w as due chiefly to the g ood bow ling o f P allett, w ho took nine w ickets fo r 55 runs, and the good batting o f Mr. B ainbridge and W . Q uaife, w h o put on 89 for the first w icket. On T uesday m orning Me D ock er found n o one to stop w ith h im until th e arrival o f Shilton, w ho helped to add 4* fo r the tenth w icket. M r. D ocker, w ho had gone in fifth w icket dow n, carri d out his b a t fo r a w ell-played score o f 51. H eavy rain prevented the com m en cem en t o f the second innings o f E ssex fo r tw o h ours, and tw o oth er stoppages occu rred subsequently. In w hat little play th ere w as th e w icket w as of course w et and easy, and w hen rain finally stopped pla y 41 had been scored at a cost o f C ar penter’s w icket.
