O n th e oth er hand, L eicestersh ire had a b ou t its best side, w ith the resu lt th a t th e gam e w en t tow ards the finish in fa v ou r o f the h om e eleven. T he w icket a t the ou tset w as suffering fro m th e recen t rain fall, and to s’ic h an extent th a t the ou tcom e o f the first day’s play w as an aggregate of 241 run s fo r sixteen w ickets. 8 o fa r th e h ighest score h a d been T om lin ’s 48 n ot ou t fo r L ei estershire, an excellent in nings w ith ou t a m istake. On F riday m orning th e fo u r rem aining w ickets o f Y orkshire added 38 runs, so th a t the result o f th e first hands w as to lea<e L eicestersh ire in a m inority o f 10 runs, i he w ick et w as little if any better than on the first day, and b u t fo r the brilliant display o f the captain L eicestersh ire’s second to ta l w ould on ly h ave been sm all. A s it w as M r. D e T rafford's hitting w as o f quite an exceptional ch aracter. G oing in first, he h a d m ade 92 out of the 127 scored at the fa ll of the ninth w icket, and w ith ou t a real m istake. W ith 122 to w in, Y orkshire began the fou rth inn ings so badly against the bow lin g of M r. H illyard and P ough er that six w ickets w ere dow n fo r on ly thirty-six runs. W a in w righ t’s hitting w as the on ly redeem ing feature, and though F oster and H unter pu t on 21 runs at th e finish, L eicester shire w ere in the end able to secure a very credit able v ictory b y 47 runs.
