W ebbe at C am bridge at the end of last week. 1 “ U niversity captain , M r. P . H. L atham , was unable to play ow ing to S chools, and in his absence a trial w as given to Mr. J. A. H ealing, w hose score of 104 w as one o f the m ost n otew orth y features of th eS en iors’ m atch . Mr. W ebbe’s E leven, w ho w ent in first, w ere at the w ickets till past four o ’clock on T hursday fo r 250. O f th is total M essrs. Jackson and H ew ett between them con tribu ted 154. B oth A m ateurs scored freely, and w ere alike seen to great advantage, Mr. Jackson m aking 72 ou t o f 119 w hile he w as in, w hile Mr. H ew ett w as on ly batting an hour and forty m inutes for his 82 Mr. Bohlen, w ho, as w ill be rem em bered, played such brilliant cricket again st the Australians last Septem ber, also show ed ca pital form . R obinson and CrocK er offered such a sturdy resist? nee to the bow lin g o f W hiteh ead, A ttew ell, and Mr. Jack son th at the follow -on w as saved, the three ou ts’anding w ickets having added £5 runs, ls jn n g the field a second tim e in a m inority o f 76, the C am bridge eleven saw their bow lers severely punished. T h e w icket w as faster than on the previous day, and L ord H aw ke set the rest exam ple o f bril iant hitting. W ith M r P hilipson he pu t on 124 fo r the first w icket, and w hen he w as out, the total w as 294.
