Cricket 1893
SE P T . 7, 1898 CRICKETs A WEEKLY EECORD OF THE GAME* 391 had no match on either then or last Thursday, Yorkshire would have been guilty of almost offensive patriotism ia releasing him. “ But Middlesex let off Stoddart and McGregor.” Excuse me, amateurs decide for themselves besides, as neither of these are Middlesex men born, they can but faintly realise the clannish feeling of a genuine T yke; Lis county is the universe to him, especially in matters of sport. Should it be necessary in future to put in the field the absolutely best England E leven; then to secure this would it not be advisable to leave such dates a blank so far as County cricket is con cerned? And yet I belong to an ever- increasing band who infinitely prefer a first- class county match to any Inter-colonial match ever yet played, For this reason I sincerely hope County cricket will pursue an uninterrupted course for certainly the next five years.
