172 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. JUNE lx 1893 TH E LONDON CLUBS. OnWbit-Monday the R edh ill ground w as the scene of some high scoring by the local club. After getting Earlswood out for 38, the home team made 377, the highest total recorded on the ground. This sum was principally due to the excellent and steady batting of Bruce Hubbard, who scored 231 out of that number. His innings included 32 fours (boundary hits), and although he was let off three times, his innings was a very creditable performance. On Saturday last D ulwich followed up their Whitsuntide successes with a decisive victory over Spencer, besides scoring a win against Battersea’s first eleven. Mainly through the help of A. R. Colyer, who played a good game for 72 not out, and J F. Colyer, who got 54, they closed their innings against Spencer at 183 for five wickets. The bowling of T. R. Pearse and H. Darby sent tho Spencer back for 87. At Battersea, Dulwich went down for 81, but owing to the bowling of T. S. Tregellas, wTho has just re-appeared in the team, and W. Morris, Battersea retired beaten by 19 runs. Dulwich were beaten by Batter sea (2) mainly owing lo the good scoring of their opponents, for whom Whitley put on 43, and H. Barnes 31. On Saturday last C roydon and B eddington played two marches. In that between the first teams at Croydon the visitors scored 232 for seven wickets. Of this number F. E. Goddard contributed 103 by free cricket and C. W . Lindsay 60. Croydon, at the drawing of stumps, had only scored 100 for seven wickets. At Beddington, Croydon won by 142 to 71. The I ncogs beat Upper Tooting on Saturday last, at Tooting, by 22 runs. Though 1hey lost their first wicket at 56, the score was only 99 when the seventh fell. H. A. Cooper, who made 66, then hit the bowling to all parts of the field (although missed three times, twice in the long-field early in his innings) and with Street (41) put on 81 runs. H. S. Urwick took 7 wickets for 68. -R.M. Harvey on being put on the second time took 3 wickets in 7 balls for no runs. Tooting lost their first wicket for 6, but R. M. Harvey and E C. Taylor altered the game altogether and added 130 runs for the s econd wicket. After this with the exception of T. W. Hemmeide (11) no one made any stand, and the whole side were out for 165. K. M. Harvey 64, E. C. Taylor 60, between them scored 124, out of 144 from the bat. H. A. Cooper took 5 wickets for 47, F, A. Coleridge 4 wickets for 50. 0 E. J. Heasman, c Huut. b Butler ... H.
