1 6 8 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. JUNE 1, 1893 CB ICKET AT CAMBR IDGE . CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY v. M.C.C. & G. Though theyhad to go in on Thursday afternooD, at Cambridge, against a heavy score of 268, the Cambridge eleven showed Buch capital all-round cricket that they were left with a very creditable victory on Saturday by ten wickets. 'Chi* success was mainly due to the good batting of tbe captain, | L. P. Gay, T. N. Perkins, and KaDjitsinhji, iu j conjunction with the effective bowling of the Harrow captain of 1891,0. G. Pope. F. S. Jackson, j who is in rare form this season, played exception- j ally good cricket for his 102. His innings ia3ted t<vo hours and five minutes, and his hits all-round the wicket were particularly safe and well-timed. : The Cambridge innings lasted four hours an 140 minutes, so that runs were got at tbe rate of nearly eighty an hour, a capital performance .a?ainst the bowling of Shacklock, Davidson, Mead, and otherd. The best batting on the Bide of M.C C. was in the first; innings, while Carpenter aud Chatterton were together. In two hours and tea minutes they pu!t op 153 runs, and with hardly a bad stroke. ;Carpenter was at the wicket altogether three hours for his 115. He gave no chances, and his innings, which was free from a mistake, will add to his reputation In the match C G. Pope tOQk eight Marvif* one wictets at a ccst of just over eleven runs ap eze.
