fiOd CRICKET A WEEKLY EECORD OF THE GAME. DEC. 29, 1892 MEETING OF COUNTY SECRETARIES. Custom has prescribed of late years that the County Secretaries should meet at Lord’s, on the second day of the Cattle Show Week, to arrange their several programmes for the ensuing season. The rule was carried out this year, and there was a very large attendance on Tuesday the 6th inst., in view of a more than ordinarily heavy match list, consequent on the proposed visit of another Australian team. Mr. H. Perkins, the secretary of the Maryle bone Club, was in the chair; and among the other representatives present were— Messrs. C.W. Alcock, W.W. Eead, and J. Shuter, Surrey ; W. H. C. Oates and E. Browne, Notts ; H. Murray Anderdon, T. Spencer, and H. T. Hewett, Somerset; S. H. Swire. J. MacLaren, and E. B. Bowley, Lancashire; I. D. Walker and A. J. Webbe, Middlesex ; M. J. Ellison and J. B. Wostinholm, Yorkshire ; W. H. Patterson and A. J. Lancaster, Kent; W. G. Grace, Gloucestershire ; W. New ham, G. Goldsmith, and W. Keen, Sussex; P. H. Latham, Cambridge University; C. M. Tebbutt and O. R. Borrodaile, Essex ; W. Ansell, Warwick shire ; W. M. Jervis and W. B. Dela combe, Derbyshire; J. Bonner and T. Burdett, Leicestershire; B. Bencraft, Hampshire; H. Thornber and J. Horner, Cheshire; B. H. Mallett, Durham; E. G. Buxton, Norfolk ; H. Philipson and S. J. Crawford, North umberland ; W. L. Yorath, Glamorgan shire ; A. Worsley and W. H. A. Worsley, North and East Biding of Yorkshire ; T. C. Slaney, Staffordshire; Bev. A. T. Fortescue and G. F. Wells-Cole, Lincoln shire ; Bev. G. T. Warner, Devonshire; P. II. Foley, Worcestershire; H. Pigg, Hertfordshire ; H. M. Turner, Oxford shire ; T. H. Vialls, Northamptonshire ; F. T. Higgins and G. B. Ward, Buck inghamshire ; J. W. Iliffo, Cambridge shire and Huntingdonshire; and C. I. Thornton. In opening the meeting, the chairman thought it would be better, before pro ceeding to decide upon the fixtures for the coming year, if something of apositive nature could be placed before the dele gates. He had received a letter from Mr. Portus, hon. sec. of the Australian Cricket Council, in which the hope was expressed that the Marylebone Club and English cricketers would, as in previous years, welcome the Australians; but further than this, he had had no corres pondence on the subject. Mr. Alcock, he believed, was in a position to state more clearly the intention of the Australians, and he probably could give them some idea of the constitution of the team. In reply, Mr. Alcock stated that the information he had received was to the effect that a team of Australians would certainly visit England next year, and that the formation of the Council had provided the guarantee the English Clubs very properly required. In fact their approval was necessary before an Australian team could leave for England, and under these circumstances the prin cipal English Clubs had expressed their readiness to welcome the coming team.
