Cricket 1892

0C3\ 27, 1892 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OP THE GAME. 463 INTERNATIONAL MATCH. UNITED STATES v. CANADA. The nineteenth international match be tween the "United States and Canada was played on the ground of the Germantown Club at Manheim, Philadelphia, on Septem ber 16 and 17. , For the first time since 1885 Canada won the toss, and as they were thought to have a good all-round combina tion, their supporters were not without hope that they would make an interesting game of it. The commencement, however, was very unpromising. Terry, who had been scoring very heavily in Canada, was bowled with the second ball of the match. This was only, too, the commencement of a series of failures, as, though Henry aud Gillespie made a short stand, ;the tail gave little help, aud the whole side were out for the small total of G5. King, of the Tioga Club, a fast bowler, was very successful at the finish of the innings, dismissing three batsmen at a cost of only six runs. Like their opponents, the Ameri cans made a bad start, Bristowe bowling Clark the third ball. Noble and Wood, how ever, gradually got the measure of the Cana dian bowling, and 81 had been got before the former was caught. Patterson and Wood brought the total to 174, and later Bohlen punished the bowlers so heavily that by the end of the first day the score was 311 with one wicket still to fall. On the following morning Bohlen made runs freely, till Terry got one past him. The last wicket had added 54 runs. Bailey carried out his bat for 24, a very useful contribution. The second innings of the Canadians was a reproduction of the first total. Gillespie again played steadily, but no one else gave tne American bowlers any trouble, and when the last wicket fell the Americans were left with an easy victory by an innings and 222 runs. The fielding of the loping side was very good, and Warden’s wicket-keeping decidedly above the average. G en tl e m e n op C anada . First Innings. Second Innings. W. W .
