The Warwickshire eleven had all the best of this return match, begun at Birmingham on Thursday, and won on Friday afternoon with 138 runs to spare. The result was attributable in a measure to the excellent batting of Law and Devey in each innings, and in an equal degree at the finish to the good bowling of Shilton and Pallett. Out of 814 made by Warwickshire from the bat Law and Devey contributed no less than 203. Shilton took seven wickets for 80, White­ head five for 62,Pallett fourfor 30,and Cresswell two for five runs. The Essex eleven got so much the best of the early part of the game at Leyton, on Thursday, that they were able to win on Friday afternoon with nine wickets to spare. The victory was chiefly due to the good batting of Messrs. Owen and Lucas, and the effective bowling of Mead, Pickett, and Mr. Kortright. Mr. Owen carried his bat through the first innings. Pickett took seven Hampshire wickets for 45, Mr. Kortright six for 53, and Mead six for 118 runs. Capt.
