Cricket 1892

JULY 7, 1892. CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 27 7 YORKSHIRE v. STAFFORDSHIRE. The Yorkshire eleven gave a fine display of free hitting in their second match of the season, against Staffordshire, at Hull on Monday last. Though three of tho eleven failed to get a run the score was 516 before the last wicket fell. This total was made in four hours and three quarters, so that runs were got at an average of over 100 an hour. Mr. Frank started this remarkable scoring, and his 108 only occu pied him a little over two hours. Wardall and Hunter added no less than 153 for the last wicket. Staffordshire, who had lost two wickets on Mon day night for 4, were all out for an addition of 70. In the follow-on, Turner again played capital cricket, but no one else except Richardson and Shaw did anything, and Yorkshire in the end had a decisive victory by an innings and 285 runs. CHESHIRE. Thoueh the Cheshire eleven did well to get Lancashire out for 177 at Manchester on Monday, they lost any possible advantage from their good fortune by jheir pojr show with the bat. In an hour and twenty minutes they were all out for 48, and though in the second innings there was an improvement, it was entirely the work of two batsmen. Davenport and Brown scored 92 between them, and eight of the eleven only made 9 between them. Lancashire won by an innings and 9 runs. Mold took eight wickets for Lancashire at a cost of only 46 runs. L a n c a sh ir e . Sugg, run out .......... 4 Yates, b Bennett ... 7 Barlow, c Davenport, Mr. A. T.
