Southgate, on the Southgate ground on the 19th, produced some good cricket. In the one innings of tho Erratics, J. L. Turner scored a hard-hit G2, and in addition secured six wickets for 15 runs. The other four wickets were taken by Montezuma at a cost of 13 runs. Iu the second innings of Southgate, C. Wilson per formed the hat trick, securing four wickets with consecutive balls. His complete analysis read 3—0—9—4. Under the direction of Mr. E. B. Wells, the Upper Clapton Club is making steady progress. So far this season, up to date, sixty new members have been elected to the club, amongst them being Dr. Chetham Strode, an old West of Scotland cricketer, fairly well known at Edinburgh University a year or so back, and Mr. F. J. Cranston, brother to tho Gloucestershire left-hander. The ground is in excellent condition, as witness the scoring so far this year. W. W. K. Robinson—one of the eleven of that name who annually play the Grace family—is batting very well just now, as also is J. B. Cottingham, an old Felstead boy. Hornsey won both its matches last Saturday. The chief credit of the victory over a strong Clapton team was due to the all round play of B. A. Clarke. He not only scored 44 in good style tut bowled 22 overs, 12 maidens, for 22 runs and eight wickets, and took the last three Clapton wickets with successive balls within a few minutes of time. Guy’s Hospital has usually a good all-round side, and this season shows no exception to the general rule. So far the high scoring of C. J. Francis (a brother of H. H. Francis, of Gloucestershire) has been one of the best features of Guy’s cricket. Playing for the Hospital on Saturday last v. R.I.E. College Cooper’s Hill, he scored 101 not out, which he followed up on Monday a4; the Oval with a very fine score of 106 against the Surrey Club and Ground. A mention that Bowley, Watts, and H. H. Cornish were amongst the bowlers he had to meet, sufficiently bespeaks the quality of the performance. It is rarely, indeed, that two scores of a hundred are made in two successive working days. The ClaphamWanderers’season did not open in very auspicious fashion, in fact, they received a severe defeat in their opening fixture at the hands of Banstead, whilst since then they have been fur ther defeated by the Surrey Colts, and on Saturday last by Ewell. At Chiswick Park, however, and at Cane Hill Asy lum the Wanderers proved successful, after a capital game in each instance. In the latter Stanley Colman achieved a notable success, carrying his bat through the first innings for 65 out of 104, and in addition taking five wickets at small cost. Granville (Lee) has played three matches during tho past week, and won them them all. Last week, a team from Dulwich was defeated very easily, owing greatly to a good bowling performance on the part of C. J. Godfrey and G. C. Sims. On Saturday, their friendly adversaries, the Forest Hill, were met, two matches being played, the one at Lee, the other at Forest Hill. In the result the Granville won both. G. C. Sims bowled very finely at Lee, taking seven wickets. P. P. Lincoln was in evidence with a freely hit innings of 68, and C. J. Godfrey with a score of 34 (not out). At Forest Hill, F. Bull, for the Granville, played well for 61.
