The abstract and brief chronicle of the time.— ____________________ Hamlet, C r ic k e te r s , as a rule, prefer to settle their differences in a friendly way, and the case must be desperate when recourse is had to the uncertain pitches of the law. County grounds are more to their taste than county courts. Still, there are at times points o f procedure on which it is of interest to secretaries of clubs to be well posted. A case of this kind came before the Liverpool County Court last week. Mr. A. H . Boswell, on behalf of the Otterspool C.C., sued a member for payment of subscription due to that club for last year. The verdict was for the plaintiff, and judgment was entered for the amount o f the debt, with costs. Non payment of club subscriptions is, as a rule, merely met by the removal of the defaulter’s name. It would be to the general interest if the vigorous action of the authorities o f the Otterspool Club found more imitators. C ricket readers w ill be interested to hear the high estimate o f Mr. H . Philip- son’s wicket-keeping in the return match w ith Victoria. Comm enting on the E n g lish out-cricket, “ F elix " writes thusly:— In fielding I single oat Philipson as the best performer in the whole twenty-two. Not a single bye is down against him throughout the match, and while he had the gloves on 773 balls were delivered. So far as I observed he did not make a mistake from first to last, and the way in whioh he caught Trott on the leg-side was worthy of Blackham at his beet. The Victorians were unanimous in the opinion that Philipson’s exhibition with the gloves in this farewell Victorian matoh ranks in the highest class. In taking from the field he was as correct as he was expert in accepting the chances offered, and to me it is a genuine pleasure to pay my tribute of praise in recog nition of his very excellent work.
