Cricket 1891

o c t . 29, i89i CKIOKET: Team and Twenty of All Ceylon. Great pre parations had been made by the executive of the Colombo C.C. and there was a very large attendance, the Governor having granted a public holiday in honour of the occasion. The Englishmen, winning the toss, were dismissed for 14‘2, of which Mr. Stoddart made 70. After 70 had been made by the local • players for the loss of ten wickets rain fell so heavily that play had to be given up. The game was consequently drawn. The scores of the English Team were—Mr. *V. G. Grace 14, Mr. Stoddart 70, Abel 10, Read 4, Peel 16, Lohmann 12, Briggs 3, Mr. McGregor 0, Bean 0, Attewell 7, Mr. Philipson 4, Sharpe 1; extras 1—Total, 142. In the evening the team were entertained to dinner by the Colombo C.C. The Arcadia left at midnight for Adelaide, where she is due on November 12. The team play their first match v. South Australia at Adelaide on November 20, Vic toria at Melbourne on November 27, New South Wales at Sydney on December 4. The first match with Combined Australia is fixed to commence on the ground of the Melbourne C.C. on New Year’s Day. WH ITG IFT WANDERERS. Matches played 11—won 8, lost 2, drawn 1. BATTING AVERAGES.
