Cricket 1891

296 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. JULY 30, 1891 is certainly one of the most promising young cricketers of the day. Nearly six feet in height he has everything in his favour, and as in addition to sound defence he has no small powers of hitting, he is at all times a dangerous batsman. A fine field, he is, too, a very useful medium pace bowler. With a rather high delivery he keeps a good length, and has at times been very suc cessful. In Oxford athletics, Mr. Palairet has also taken a prominent place. In the University Sports he was third in the Mile as well as second in the Half-mile, and last March in the Three Miles Inter-University Race at the Queen’s Club he finished fourth, being beaten on the post for third place. Though it was his younger brother who played in the Oxford Association Football Eleven against Cambridge, he also played more than once for the University. Our portrait is from a photograph by Hills and Saunders, of Oxford. HAMPSTEAD v. CRYSTAL PALACE. Played at Hampstead on July 2*3. H a m p s t e a d . G. Thornton, c Flem ming, b G. Cosens 26 W. W.
