Cricket 1891
JUNE 26, 1891 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 2 0 1 ESSEX v. DERBYSHIRE. The Essex eleven had an easy victory in this match, began at Leyton on Monday, having nine wickets in hand when the game was finished on Tuesday afternoon. Mr. A. P. Lucas was for once able to assist Essex, and both sides were well represented in spite of the absence of Messrs. F. E. Rowe, of Essex, andG. G. Walker, of Derbyshire. Some fairly even scoring was shown by the Essex eleven, whowent in first, and of the sevenwho contributed double figures to the total of 184, Cutts was the most successful run-getter with thirty-five. Derbyshire in their turn made a very disappointing show with the bat, and Mead and Pickett proved so effeotive with the ball that thewhole side were dismissed for 86, of which 60 came from Sugg, Hulme, and Davidson. In the follow-on they were seen to slightly better advantage, but Essex always had the game well in hand, and the 44 wanted to win were got for the loss of only one bats man. E ssex . First Innings.
