YORKSHIRE v. WARW ICKSH IRE. The Yorkshire eleven won their first match of the season at Bradford on Tuesday, when they beat Warwickshire with 65 runs to spare. Neither county had quite its full strength, with Lord Hawke and Mr. E . Smith absent from Yorkshire, and Richards, who is engaged with the Nelson Club, unable to help Warwick shire. Winning the toss, Yorkshire made a good start, thanks to the good hitting of Ulyett, who soored 56 of the first 69 runs in just over the hour. Peel and Wainwright subsequently played well, but Pallett bowled with remark able success against the tail, and the last five wickets only added 19 runs. Pallett delivered his last 31 balls for 6 runs and five wickets. Peel, who had carried his bat for an ex tremely well-got 36, also bowled with great effect, and it was mainly to him that the dis missal of the Warwickshire eleven in an hour and three-quarters, for the small total of 95, was due. W ith 37 runs to the good, Yorkshire had only twenty minutes for batting on Mon day evening, and during this time lost Brown, who had again failed to score, for 8 runs. When Ulyett and Hall, however, became partners on Tuesday, the Yorkshire total rose steadily, and in anhour64runs were added. Ulyett had again shaped in his best style, and his free cricket was much appreciated by the spectators. In spite of the stand of this pair, however, seven wickets were down for 101, and it was only the excellent cricket of Wainwright that enabled Yorkshire to head the previous score. Wanting 193 to win, Warwickshire sent in West and Law, and so well did both shape that 40 had been got before the first wicket fell. After this, though, the bowling of Wainwright and Whitehead altered the game completely, and when the seventh batsman was out, the total was only 62. Though some free cricket by Devey and Collishaw resulted in the addition of 43, Yorkshire had still plenty in hand, and the game ended on Tuesday night, having been extended ten minutes to allow of a finish.
