Cricket 1891

MAT 21, 1891 CRICKET: A WEEKLY KECOED OP THE GAME; 119 they began so badlythat when the fourthwioket fell the total was only 36. A useful stand by Jardine and Wilson, however, improved the appearance of the game greatly. In an hour ana forty minutes the pair added 103, and of these 63 were made by Wilson, who, with the exception of one bad hit, made no mistake. After their separation, though, Ferris found the wicket more to his taste, and Jardine, who had no one to stop with him, saw the last six wickets dismissed for an aggregate of 29 runs. Too much praise can hardly be given to the Oxford captain for his sound exhibition of batting. Going in with the score at four he helped to add 164 runs during the three hours and a quarter he was batting. Moreover, he never gave a semblance of a chance, and his care and correctness were equally conspicuous throughout. As it had been arranged to rdraw stumps at five o’clock on Saturday, there were only twenty minutes left for play when Ferris and Philipson went in. The pair made 13 of the 93 wanted to win when time was up, so that the game was drawn. The Gentlemen thus required 80 to secure the ]victory with all their wickets in hand. T he U niversity .
