At Sheffield Park on April 29, Mr. Mur doch’s team failed to reverse the result of the first match, played during the preceding week. Bean again played a useful innings for the losers, but Mr. Murdoch did not pome off, and Mr. Newham was also a failure. Thanks to Quaife and Gutteridge, who played well together, the close of an innings apiece left Shaw’s team 34 runs to the good—an ad vantage which by free hitting they had increased to 140 (for four wickets) at the call of time. Of this number, Marlow scored 93, and was not out; indeed, his brilliant hitting encourages the hope that he may play some fine innings for Sussex County this season. In bowling, Shaw secured seven wickets for 34, Bean four for 48, and Hilton six for 70 runs. A. S haw ’ s T eam . First Innings. Mr. C.
