Cricket 1890
78 CRICKET: A WEEKLY EECORD OF THE GAME. APRIL 24, 1890. V IS IT OF A DUTCH ELEVEN TO ENGLAND. The Dutch Cricket Union had under con sideration on Saturday a proposal to send a Dutch eleven to England during the ensuing summer. There are many thousand cricket and football players all over the Netherlands, and last year A. Bentley, of Devonshire, went over to coach them in the noble game, the Dutch Cricket Union defraying all expenses. After some discussion, it was resolved to send an eleven to England during the coming season. OF J. BRIGGS’ ELEVEN v. SIXTEEN ROCHDALE. John Briggs, the Lancashire professional, took a strongish side to Rochdale on Saturday last to meet a Sixteen. The locals were assisted by Wainwright, the Yorkshire player, and in a very great measure through his excellent all-round cricket were able to win with 87 runs to spare. Wainwright and Mr. Kershaw were responsible for 91 out of 147 made by the Sixteen from the bat. The former, too, was in good form with the ball, taking seven of the ten wickets of Briggs’ side. Mold, the fast bowler, was, singularly enough, the chief scorer for the latter. R o c h d a l e . Kershaw, st Yates, b J. B. Briggs ..........40 Sugg, b J.
