Cricket 1890

434 CRICKET 2 A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME, OCT. 30* 1890. their own way, are well w orthy of encourage m ent. That Mr. Scott’s popularity m oreover has not diminished among junior cricketers, was shown by another presentation in May last, this tim e of a framed group portrait of the members of the Cup Comm ittee and the winners—the Coburg team . Of his keen interest in everything relating to cricket, I m yself can speak from personal knowledge. During the last few years, indeed, I have had frequent occasion to be grateful for news of interest relating to the game in Australia, and C bicket has no m ore welcom e corres pondent. A snapper up of unconsidered trifles like m yself, his store of cricket know ledge is varied and complete. Enthusiasm in any branch of life does m uch to arouse a comm on feeling of interest. Cricket in par ticular is fortunate in having enthusiasts out of number. Still, they deserve each and all of them well of the state, and even if there are many who can claim to be as keenly interested in the game as “ T he A lm anac,” it should be the policy to increase rather than to reduce the number. M ay their shadows never grow le ss! Our portrait is from a photograph by Grant and C o., of Melbourne. C RO YD O N CLUB. Matches played, 48— won 14, lost 12, drawn 17. RESULTS OF MATCHES. May 3—v.
