432 CRICKET: A WEEKLY BECORD OF THE GAME. SEPT. 25, 1890. TH E SU R R E Y E LEV EN v. E IG H T E EN OF M ID -S U R R E Y . T he Surrey eleven, who opened their season at Kingston against a local team, ended it aho in M id-Surrey with a fixture against E ighteen of the division. The game, which was played under the direct auspices of the county club, on the Athletic Ground at Richm ond, on M onday and Tuesday, produced some excellent cricket, which was m uch appreciated by a large com pany. The eighteen were a strong all-round lot, and there was great excitem ent at the finish of their innings, which just headed that of their opponents by 3 runs. Ireland and Barker, the two last batsmen, too, were R ich m ond players, so that their success gave great satisfaction to the crowd. Brockwell played very fine cricket for the eleven, and H oldship, Fitzgerald, and G. F . Cornish were seen to best advantage for the eighteen. S u r r e y . First Innings. Mr. C. M. Although these handles are in two pieces from the shoulder of the blade, it is impossible to get them out of shape. These bats, introduced in 1889, have been used by the best Cricketers or England, Australia and New Zealand, as well as having been sent to India and Africa, and the uni versal testimony is that nothing has ever been brought into the Cricketing world to give such advantages to the batsman in cutting and driving powers A quantity of All- Cane-Handled Bats, warranted (a little soiled), offered at a very low figure.
