Cricket 1890

SEPT 11, 1890c CRIOKET: A WEEKLY EECORD OP THE GAME; 887 however, found no one to stay with him till Ferris came in, and the latter helped his Cap tain to make the stand of the innings. Seven wiokets were down for 65 when they got together, and Ferris not only assisted to save the innings, but to raise the score to 113 before he lost Murdoch. The latter had played with great judgment as well as care, and his 37,which took him an hour and fifty minutes, was an excellent display of batting, a pleasant relief after the other failures. At luncheon time the total was 119 for nine wickets, and only five were added before the innings closed, Ferris carrying out his bat for a most useful 26. Martin took five wickets for 35, and his ten wickets in the match were obtained for an average of 11 runs. The Marylebone Eleven had only 44 to get to win, but Turner and Ferris bowled withsuch success that six of the best batsmen on the side were dismissed before the last run was got. M.C.C. and G. thus won with four wiokets to spare. Turner’s four wickets at the finish only cost 22 runs. M.C.C. First Innings. Mr. E. C.
