The Somersetshire Eleven gained their tenth successive victory at Taunton on Tues day, when they defeated W arwickshire by an innings and 87 runs. In losing the toss W ar w ickshire had all the worst of the wicket, and after the heavy storm of M onday night, there was no possible chance of their recover ing the ground they had lost by their m ode rate batting at the start. Mr. W oods, the Cambridge captain, was able to assist Somerset shire, and his bowling, it will be seen, aasisted the side m aterially. Tyler, who has been so consistently successful this summer, though, was m ainly instrumental in the dis missal of the W arwickshire eleven, and he was credited w ith eleven wickets for an average offour-and-a half runs. Mr. W oods took six wickets for 45. On the other side Cresswell’s bowling was particularly noteworthy. He got eight of the ten Somersetshire wickets at a cost of 45 runs, excellent figures in an innings of 211. S omerset . Mr. H. T. Hewett, b Shilton .................32 Mr. L. C. H. Though they had all the worst of the first day’s play in this return match begun at Beckenham on Thursday, the Kent eleven played up so pluckily that the later stages of the game were all their favour, and W arw ick shire were after all beaten by 30 runs. W hen they went in for the fourth innings W arw ick shire wanted 116 to win, and at the end of the second day 78 of them had been got for the loss of six batsmen. Martin’s bowling on Saturday, however, practically won the match for Kent, and the four remaining wickets were obtained for an addition of only seven runs. In the m atch altogether Martin took eleven W arwickshire wickets for 109 runs. K ent . Firsfc Innings. Second Innings. Mr. L. Wilson, b Shilton 13 b Pallett ..........30 A.
