The Somersetshire eleven had another de­ cisive victory at Taunton on Tuesday, when they defeated Staffordshire by an innings and 171 runs. Mr. H ewett’s hitting,and the bowling of Nioholls and Tyler, were the chief factors in their success. Mr. H ewett made his 203 in four hours, a remarkable display of powerful and well-tim ed hitting. H e alone scored 36 more than the other side in their tw o attempts. Staffordshire were not only without their captain,M r. A . H . Heath, but were also two short. T yler and N icholls divided theStaf­ fordshire wickets. The form er took nine for 86, the latter five for 55 runs. Somersetshire’s innings was closed on the fall of the seventh wicket.
