Cricket 1890

JtfI/5? 1?, 1890. CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OE THE GAME. 261 praised. Paul increased his score to 65 before he was run out. His runs occupied him an hour and fifty minutes, and though not quite equal in quality to that of Briggs, his innings was none the less, of great merit. Though the total was 160 when Paul was out, Mr. Whit- well and Tinsley, who was not tried till the total was 151, bowled with such effect that but 1 27 were added, the latter taking three wickets at a cost of only 15 runs. Yorkshire, wanting 26Lto win, went in on Friday night with only a quarter of an hour left for batting, and ia this short time lost two good wickets for the same number of runs. They would have had to make 259 to win, with only eight wickets in hand, had play been continued on Saturday. They were, however, spared an almost hopeless task by the heavy rain of Saturday morning, and at three o’clock the game was abandoned as it was left on Friday night. Mold, it will be seen, took nine of the twelve Yorkshire wickets that fell at a cost of only 40 runs. L a n c a s h ir e . First Innings. F. Ward, lbw, b Peel Barlow, b Peel .......... A.
