MAY 15, 1890. CRICKET: A WEEKLY EECORD OF THE GAME; 115 PLAYING FIELDS FOR LONDON. T h e Hon. E. Ckandos Leigh, the Chairman of the London Playing Fields Committee, has sent us the following for publication. Som e w eeks ago you k in dly reported a m eetin g o f the L on d on P la y in g F ields C om ­ m ittee, w h ich has been form ed fo r the pu r­ pose o f en cou ragin g th e use o f open spaces for crick et and footb all, and generally to give a u n ited voice to the num erous young w ork ­ in g m en and lads o f L o n d o n w ho seek their recreation in this w ay. T h e C om m ittee, w h ich is an em in ently representative one, has aim ed at a division of labour, and has divided itself in to five d istrict sub-com m ittees, representing the five segm ents o f L on don , fo r th e purpose of m akin g prelim in ary enquiries. These sub­ com m ittees have m ade considerable progress in gaining the necessary inform ation . T o tabulate th e available spaces, w ith th eir area and th e present regulations, is n ot difficult. T h e h arder task is to ascertain the exten t of the need, and especially th e nam es, o f the very num erous clubs w h ich are form ed for th e purpose o f playing S aturday aftern oon m atches. O ur ob ject in w ritin g to y ou at th e present tim e is to give p u b licity to the fact that such an enqu iry is n ow being m ade. It w ould greatly assist th ose w h o are m aking it, if th e secretaries and leading m em bers of such cricket and footb all clu bs w ould, a ccord - to th e district, as show n below , in w h ich th eir clu b is situate, com m u n icate w ith th e representative of that district, as m entioned here, g ivin g the nam e and address of the club, and of th e ground u pon w h ich it plays.
