The presence of no less than nine members of the Australian team in Mr. H. H. Hyslop’s twelve, lent particular interest to this match, played at Erith on Saturday last. The Eighteen, who were assisted by Walter Wright and Bombardier Barton, of Kent, seemed likely to make a good score at the outset, thanks to the batting of Faulkner, Barton and Hutchings, the last of whom hit with great vigour, sending Trumble twice over the ring in one over. Messrs. Barrett and Trott made a good start for the Twelve, the latter having scored 31 out of 57 got when he was out. Mr. Murdoch, who followed, shaped well, and the total had been raised to 117 before Doctor Barrett was bowled. The Doctor, who is a left-handed batsman, fully upheld his reputation as a stonewaller. He was in two hours and twenty minutes for his runs. At the end of the day the Twelve had made 128 for the loss of only three batsmen, so that at the finish they were only 28 behind, with seven wickets in hand. The match was altogether a most enjoyable one, and the local cricketers have every leason to be grateful to Mr. Hyslop for some very attractive cricket. E ig h t e e n o p E r it h . J.
