The following report will be presented to the annual general meeting of this Club, to be held to-morrow (Friday), at 5.30 p.m., in the pavilion on the County Ground at Leyton. The committee regret to have to place on record their appreciation of the great loss that the Club has sustained through the death of Sir Charles Ducane, K.C.M.G., one of the oldest vice-presidents of the club. The county matches resulted in three wins, six losses, andfour draws. The club and ground matches in six wins, two losses, and seven draws. These results are not as satisfactory as could be wished, but as the committee have promises of renewed support from all those gentlemen who so willingly assisted the county last season, and have, in addition to some very promising young talent, great hopes of being able to secure the valuable assistance of Mr. A. P. Lucas, who is now qualified to play for the county under the residential qualification, a much more satisfactory report may be con fidently looked for when the ensuing season closes. The present season’s county fixtures are home and home matches with Surrey, Derby shire, Leicestershire, and Hertfordshire, and home matches with Somersetshire and the M.C.C. and Ground. The committee are pleased to be able to say that Dr. W. G. Grace has promised to play in this latter match, and as this will be his first appearance in the east end of London it should prove a great treat to cricket enthusiasts. For financial reasons the committee have, with great reluctance, been compelled to abandon for this season the home and home matches with Hampshire, and the out match with Somersetshire. In order to enable the members to have greater opportunities of both cricket and lawn tennis practice and matches, the committee have not thought it advisable to renew the agreement with the Insurance Cricket and Athletic Clubs. This has allowed of a very long list of club and ground cricket matches being arranged, and it is trusted that a large number of the playing members will avail themselves of these fixtures. The committee wishing to give greater pro minence to lawn tennis now that the club is confined to bona-fide members, have decided to allow a limited number of lady members to join the club, at a subscription of half a guinea. Club tournaments and handicaps will be arranged very early in the season, while an open tournament will be held on the ground during the last week in August. The success that attended the athletic meeting last year has induced the committee to arrange for spring and summer meetings, to be held on May 11 and August 24 respec tively. They have also determined to hold, in conjunction with the Leyton and Leyton- stDne Fire Brigade, a monster fire brigade fete and competition on Whit-Monday, which, from the excellent promises of support already received, is likely to prove a very great success. The committee are pleased to be able to report a very decided improvement in the attendances during the past football season, and hope to arrange even a more attractive programme during the ensuing one. The number of spectators who patronised the ground on the occasion of the visit of our American baseball friends was also gratifying, and tends to show that the ground is making steady and satisfactory progress in popularity. Turning to the financial results of the past year, while the committee have to regret the large amount at which the club’s liabilities stand, they would point out there has been a satisfactory reduction in the actual cost of the year’s working. The loss on the year’s cricket is still very heavy, the unfortunate weather experienced on the occasion of the Australian matches not allowing the antici pated receipts to be realised from this source. To meet the present deficiency in the working account, the committee have decided to abandon for this season the three county
