N The abstract andbrief chronicle of the time.— _______________________________________ HamltU T h e r e is a proposition that the Gentle­ men of Philadelphia, who are to visit England in July, shall play a picked eleven of English residents before their departure for the old Country. Such a match would undoubtedly be very bene­ ficial in affording the team which is to visit us this summer a good practice, as well as in giving additional interest to their parting. There is no lack of likely talent of English birth on the other side of the big drink, and an eleven selected from such players as Lane, Bromhead, Pacey, Handford, Tyers, Butler, Burrows, A. Macpherson, H. Penn, A. M. Wood, Chambers, R. Humphreys, Eoberts, Braithwaite and Martin, several of whose names will be thoroughly familiar to C r ic k e t readers, would represent a for­ midable combination for the Phila­ delphians to oppose. The International Match Committee are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the presence in Eng­ land of a team thoroughly representative of Philadelphian cricket, and those from whom the final relection will be made are already hard at work.
