Cricket 1889

APRIL 25, 1889. CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 67 GLOUCESTERSHIRE COLTS’ MATCH. This, the opening match of the County’s new ground at Ashley Downs, took place on Monday and. Tuesday last. The Colts were represented by some well-known Gloucester shire cricket names. Amongst others, the Champion’s eldest son, W . H. Brain, younger brother of J. H. and captain of last year’s Clifton College team, F . C. Norrington of the same eleven, and E . G. Murdock, who has played previously for Somersetshire. The Colts, batting first, gave only a fair display, Mr. T. W . Stubbs, a fast Oxford eleven bowler of some few years since, disposing of seven of them for 12'runs—the Champion being re sponsible for another nine at a cost of only 48 runs. The eleven fared even worse, and Messrs. Radcliffe (26) and F. Townsend (17) were the chief scorers in the small total of 108. The Colts in their second venture totalled 60 for 13 wickets :— T he C olts . First Innings. E.G. Murdock,b Radcliffe 12 H. W. Brown, b Radcliffe 12 W. H. D IBRUGARH v. JORHAT. This match, played on the Dibrugarh Cricket Ground in Upper Assam, on Jan. 17 and 18, during the race meeting, will be interesting, as the score contains more than one name known to cricketers in the old Country. Mr. C. J. Showers will be well remembered in London, and Mr. D. C. Russell, who was top scorer in the match, was at one time a promi nent Scotch cricketer. J orhat . First Innings. Second Innings.
