478 CBICKET: A WEEKLY BECOBD OF THE GAME. DEC. 27, 1§89. ANNUAL MEETING OF COUNTY SECRETARIES. THE PROGRAMME FOR 1890. The annual meeting of the Secretaries of County Clubs, for the purpose of arranging the programme for 1890, was held on the 10th inst. in the dining room at Lord’s Ground. Mr. H. Perkins (secretary of the M.C.C.) was in the chair. Among the representatives present were Messrs. J. Shuter, W. W. Read, and C. W. Alcock, Surrey; W. H. C. Oates and E. Browne, Nottinghamshire; A. Appleby, J. MacLaren, and S. H. Swire, Lancashire; A. J. Webbe and I. D. Walker, Middlesex; Hon. Ivo Bligh and A. J. Lancaster, Kent; W. G. Grace, Gloucestershire; W. Newham and G. Gcld- smith, Sussex; M. J. Ellison and J. B. Wostinholm, Yorkshire ; Dr. Russell Bencraft, Hampshire; A. H. Heath and T. C. Slaney, Staffordshire; W. Ansell, Warwickshire; J. Bonner and T. Burdett, Leicestershire; J. Horner and H. Thornber, Cheshire; A. Wilson, Derbyshire ; R. H. Mallett, Durham ; C. E. Green and C. D. Buxton, Essex; H. Murray Anderton and W. N. Roe, Somerset shire; T. II. Vialls, Northamptonshire; C. J. E. Jarvis, Norfolk; J. Thompson and S. F. Crawford, Northumberland; C. Pigg, Hert fordshire; B. Robinson, Lincolnshire; and A. Worsley, North and East Riding of York shire. On the suggestion of the Chairman, it was resolved:— That in the case of fixtures between the Austra lians and mixed teams they should not be called against England Elevens, as such a title was calcu lated to give an erroneous impression in the Colonies that the Colonists were playing against representative Elevens. The arrangement of the programme was got through without any difficulty, and every desire was shown to assist in making the Australian match list as complete as possible, the Secretaries mutually agreeing that any of their players required would be let off to make the teams in the chief matches thoroughly representative. At the close of the meeting a resolution, moved by Mr. M. J. Ellison, of Yorkshire, and seconded by Mr. W. H. C. Oates, of Notts, was carried, That it is advisable that the umpires for all the fixtures of the Australian team should be chosen in the same way as in the English County matches, by the Marylebone Club. The programme, as arranged, follows. There is no great change in the matches in comparison with the previous year, though Kent has made engagements with Warwick shire, and Yorkshire has added Staffordshire and Essex to the number of its opponents. Oxford University does not meet Surrey, but instead has concluded a fixture with Sussex at Brighton. Middlesex plays Somersetshire once, on Whit-Monday, at Lord’s. There are to be three benefit matches—North v. South, at Lord’s, on May 19, for John West ; York shire v. Surrey, at Sheffield, on June 30, for L. Hall, and Kent v. Surrey, on August 7, the second match of the Canterbury week, for G. G. Hearne. 'i he Australians will play their first match at Sheffield Park on May 8 , and their last fixture so far arranged will be on Sept. 8 at Lord’s, when they propose, with the approval of M.C.C., to play a match, the whole proceeds of which are to be given to the Cricketers’ Fund.
