T h e annual meeting of County Secretaries for the arrangement of tbe various pro­ grammes of next year will be held at Lord’s on Tuesday, December 10th. M r. W. Sapte, jun., well known among cricketers, has written a travesty of “ The Middleman,” which will probably be pro­ duced shortly at the Criterion Theatre. The title is “ The Muddleman.” M r. L e s lie B a lfo u r won the King William IV.medal of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrew’s, at its autumn meeting last month, and Mr. Horace Hutchinson, author of “ Cricketing Saws and Stories,” the Club’s Gold Medal. A f t e r the close of the cricket week at Hastings, the Mayor of Hasting, Mr. Council­ lor William Stubbs, presented to Mr. E. J. M’Cormick, on behalf of the Festival Com­ mittee, a prize bat, remarking that it was appropriate and an honour to Hastings, that it had beenthe good fortune of alocal cricketer, born in the town, to win the match for the Gentlemen against the Players of England. Mr. M’Cormick in the match scored 20 and 25 not out. A t Scarborough, on September 26, Lord and Lady Londesborough were presented with a life-size portrait in oils of his Lordship, painted by Professor Herkomer. The ex- Mayor, Mr. Leasowe Walker, made the pres­ entation, and assured Lord and Lady Londes­ borough that the kindly and unostentatious manner in which they had benefited th^ town was greatly appreciated.
