(From a Correspondent). UNDER 30 v. OVER 30. Lovers of cricket will be pleased to see the renewed interest which has lately been taken in Singapore in “ the noble sport." On Satur day, August 24, the S.C.C. were again able to put two teams into the field, opposing each other under the respective titles of “ Under 30 v. Over 30.” The spin of the coin resulted in favour of the captain (Lieut. John son) of the “ Under 30,” and he wisely elected to take advantage of the wicket, which was decidedly a batting one, and the seniors consequently took the field. Darby and George first represented the “ youthfuls” against the bowling of Penney and Dr. Smith. Darby played cautiously and well for the runs he made, but George seemed too eager to score and paid the penalty of hitting at a short pitched slow-ball sent down by the Doctor.—1 for 5. Lieut. Johnson came in next, and soon “ collared ” the bowling. Darby continued his steady play, until Penney got a ball past. —2 for 39. Mr. Cook, a new arrival, filled the vacancy. We must congratulate him on the fine innings he played, and also the cricketing community in having got such a valuable addition to their ranks. Mr. Cook played in free and dashing style and has a splendid eye. His cutting wasalsohard and clean. Johnson was out after playing a fine innings of 45. Alford and Ross were soon disposed of, and tho innings was declared closed. Cook carried out his bat for 71 and was heartily applauded as he returned to the pavilion. Mr. Penney and Capt. Maitland went in first for the Seniors, but the team could do nothing with the bowl ing of the Juniors, who were dead on the spot, and they were all out just upon time for 50.
