Grace’s average was exactly the same as Ulyett’s, but taking the aggregate into consider ation, I think Ulyett is entitled to the first place. ( b ) In “ Lillywhite ” (red book) of 1884, Mr. W. W. Read has an average of 47 odds, but as his innings against the minor counties are included, it does not count. ( c) This year Mr. Grace had a much larger aggregate with only 4 points less of an average, but Mr. Steel’s runs were mostly made against the Australians, and that fact alone should give him the advantage. Mr. W. G. Grace and Mr. A. G. Steel are the only two players during these fifteen years who have been at one time or other best in both de partments of the game. NEXT ISSUE, NOVEMBER 28.
