W bster, o f K irkby Lonsdale, has sent us the score o f a match (taken from the Westmojeland Gazette of July 26, 1851), between Burneside and 2nd eleven o f Kendal, wh ich in one respect at least is in its way, we should think, w ithout parallel. “ The return match between these parties came off on Monday last, on the ground of the Kendal Club. In the opening match, wh ich took place at Burneside on the 17th u lt.,th e game was won w ith nine w ickets to spare ; and on t he present occasion, a s w ill be seen by the score, they again achieved a decisive v ictory . One o f the most remarkable features o f the game, and in faot, one o f the most curious circum stances in the h istory of cricket, was the play of Walker, who, although he has lost both arms close to the elbow , made an excellent fieldsman at point, scored six w ith the bat, and caught one o f his antagonist party out. The manner in wh ich he handles the bat with the stumps o f his arms, catches a ball by receiving it in his chest, a nd throws up a ball w ith precision by means of his foo t was some th ing quite extraordinary and we may safely say unique.” B u r n e s id e .
