Frank H eame , for whom this farewell match was played on the ground o f the Forest H ill Club, was able to p lace a strong eleven into the field on Saturday last, to oppose eighteen o f the loca l club. Lord Harris acted as captain , and in addition to the brothers Hearne, Barton , W r igh t, and Martin, Read , Henderson, and W ood , o f Surrey, were able to assist. The E ighteen , winning the toss, went in first, b ut W r igh t’s bow ling proved too good for the m a jority , a nd the last w icket fell w ith the total at 119. The chief feature of the E leven ’s inn ings w as the stand made by L ord Harris and Read for the th ird wicket. As m any as 147 were added wh ile they w ere together, and t hough e ach had more than one life , the ir free w icket was much appreciated. Going in a second time in a m inority o f 128, the E ighteen had made 21 for the loss o f seven wickets when play ceased, s o that they were still 187 behind w ith ten w ickets to fall. W r igh t’s bow ling for the E leven was exceed ing ly good . In the second innings o f the E ighteen he took five wickets for on ly six runs. During the day a co llection was made on the ground for Hearne, a nd it is stated that the result w ill be an addition o f about £25 the I benefit fund. F or the E ighteen S. Matthews’s bow ling proved m ost effective. H is six wickets were got at an expense of 24 runs. A fter the match a dinner was given in a spacious pavilion in the grounds of the Rutland Hotel onPerryH ill,at wh ich nearly a hundred sat down, the chair being taken by Mr. F . S . Brereton, the local County Coun cillor. Follow ing the usual loyal toast of “ The Queen,” came a really good seleotion of music, in wh ich Messrs, H . E . Cockell, A. Martin, Maitland D icker, Jinman Roche, George, and others jo ined . Maurice Read contributed in good style, “ A Hunting we will G o ; ” Henderson, “ Sister M a ry ; ” and Aleo Hearne, “ Let me like a Soldier Fa ll.” The Chairman, in proposing the toast of the even ing, “ Health and Prosperity to Frank Hearne,” was very happy in h is allusions, and having v isited t he colony himself, gave Hearne some good advice. The toast was received with acclamation, and drunk w ith musical honours. Frank responded in h is u sual modest manner, and after a vote of thanks to the Hon . S ec. o f the Forest H ill Club, M r. C. Spencer W est, the company separated a fter having passed a very en joyable evening. H earne ’ s XI. F o r e s t H i l l . First Innings. H. Baker, c Harris, b A.
