The success o f the Incog , tour in Ireland, wh ich commenced on the 5th o f August, was greatly marred by the inclemency of the weather during the first week, which prevented either of the first three matches from being p layed out. The team was a strong one throughout, but was not favoured with the best o f luck, and the bow ling department was weakened by the fact that Toppin , after the first innings, was scarcely able to bow l at all on account o f a strained side. He, however, scored well o n several occasions, and proved a trusty aide to the oaptain. R ev . P . Hattersley- Sm ith , who set his men a good example by getting the largest number o f runs and the highest average during the tour. The last match , at Cork, was rather a curiosity , the Incogs, hav ing t o get 62 to w in , and being defeated by five runs, the wicket being most terrib ly difficult and in favour of the bowlers.
