Cricket 1889
80 CRICKET: A WEEKLY BECORI) OF THE GAME. FEB. 21, 1889. The second match against the Fifteen of the Colony we won from start to finish—the English were never in it. Klinck, of Kimber ley, hit splendidly for 81, and Bowden, Abel, and Hearne played well, as I have mentioned, otherwise I thought the match uninteresting. I can’t account for the English form ; the glare from the ground is, of course, great, as it is like the high road with no grass, and the pace of the ground is also different 10 grass, but still the form was too bad to be true. Briggs got wickets, but seemed to have no sting in his bowling, and the fielding all round was not good enough. The team will play an eleven of South Africa on their return to Kimberley in March, and I expect some leather hunting there. Briggs has, I am told, been engaged by Kimberley from September this year to March, 1890, for .±‘300; Fothergill also at De Beers for three years. I believe this is correct. The following is the programme for the rest of the tour :— Feb. 20,21, 22-a t King Williamstown, v. King Williamstown Districts Feb. 23, 25, 26—at King Williamstown, v.
